In Wisconsin, Eagan has been training for the Olympics as a figure skater since she learned how to skate. She's active and wild. In Michigan, Amelia tries to get used to homeschooling and multiple hospital appointments. She's shy and wishes she was a normal girl. These two girls never met each other, but they are joined together by a heart. Not love at first sight, but an actual human heart. A small mistake caused Eagan to lose her life, but Amelia's life just started with Eagan's heart. Amelia has had heart failure ever since she was little. She couldn't do anything. Should she be happy for the heart or guilty that someone had to die for her to live? This book has two different points of views describing the story: Eagan's and Amelia's. Eagan's "in-between" death rewatching her life from her family secrets, her troubled relationship with her mom, or Amelia. However, Amelia doesn't know what to do when she starts to take strange characteristics after her heart transplant. Everyone says it's a gift from her heart donor. Amelia tried to find her heart donor even though that piece of information is confidential. She traces it all the way to the suburbs in Wisconsin. She decides to escape to Wisconsin, but something happens on the way that shocks everyone. I enjoyed this book because I'm always used to happy endings, but in this book there isn't. Eagan doesn't come back to life and everything's fine. My favorite part was when Eagan and her grandfather built a chair to surprise her mom. It was really sad that Eagan's mom didn't find out until after she died, but this part of the book reminded me about my childhood. This book is realistic fiction and I would recommend it to teenagers who love books that are meaningful and have a lesson to them. You can really relate to one of the two girls or even both. It makes you think about what might happen when you die and whether you should consider being an organ donor. It also taught me to let go of the past. Eagan needed to learn, forgive, and forget to move on in heaven. This book was a great, quick read.
