With a loving boyfriend, the friends she never thought she could ever have, and to be one of the most popular kids at school. Samantha Kingston's life was as perfect as can be. Or so she thought. When Samantha died on February 12th, God gave her 7 chances to redeem herself. With Friday, February 12th repeating itself over again, Samantha tries to save herself from getting killed again. As well as to find out the reason why God gave her a second chance at life and what she's supposed to do with it. However, with only 7 days, will Samantha be able redeem herself or take this time for granted once again. My favorite part of the story is when Samantha finally realizes what she needs to do for her redemption. Samantha finds out that she was given the second chance to help this girl named, Juliet, who she once teased, from suicide. In which the result was her redeeming herself, however, also dying once again. This book was realistic fiction and was a complete thriller. I believe this is a great book for teens and even adults because you could never foreshadow what was going to occur next and also because it gives us readers a great lesson that life is very unexpected, and nothing should ever be taken for granted,
When Clary Fray becomes a witness to a murder in New York City, she never expected the murderers to be invisible and to the fact that she is only one that can see them. When her mother is abruptly kidnapped, Clary must follow Jace, a Shadowhunter (one of the murderers), to get her mother back. She soon finds out that her mother herself was a Shadowhunter and is the only person who knows where the Mortal Cup (a cup used to turn humans into Shadowhunters) is. However without the unleashing of her locked memories, she will not be able to hunt down the Cup. Therefore, she must travel to the City of Bones, find her mother, and discover who she really is. My favorite part in the book was when Clary finds out that Valentine, the person who abducted her mother, was her father and to make matters worse Jace, her true love, in reality is her biological brother. This book is full of fantasy, DRAMA, and adventure. This is a great read for teens mostly those who like a great twist or surprise. The books I've read this quarter were very diverse. They were full of adventure, romance, fantasy, D-R-A-M-A, and even SCI-fi. These are the books I've read:
What Happened to Goodbye - Sara Dessen: McLean, ever since her parent's divorce, has followed her dad on his business jobs. In every new town they move to, McLean "changes" herself into someone completely different. However, when she moves to her father's new job she finds herself confused on who she really is and is trying to find out who the real McLean is. I'm a really big fan of Sara Dessen and have read most of her books. In her books, the characters deal with problems most of us are dealing with today and can really relate. Generation Dead - Daniel Waters: Phoebe and Adam live in a world where teenagers are returning from the dead. When she meets Tommy, a zombie who is a ghostly fascination, Adam can't help but feel troubled, but to make her happy he does all he can to protect him. However, in the end it all comes down to who would DIE for her. The cover and description of this book completely took me away the first time I saw it. Who doesn't love a good book where teenagers come back to life as zombies? Between the Lines - Jodi Picoult: Delilah loves fairy tales and in particular: Between the Lines and every time she can't help but fall for the prince in the story. When the fairy tale turns into reality, Delilah (due to the prince's wish) does all she can to bring Prince Oliver out of the book. I love fairy tales and this story brought one to life (literally). It was really cool to see how it formed and how the story played out. Delerium - Lauren Oliver: Lena is in a world where love is a danger to the humans. Her 18th birthday is the day she is cured from the deadly disease deleria. However, after learning her best friend's rebel side, Lena after helping to confide her becomes one just like her. She listens to music, dances, but worse of all falls in love with a Invalid, Alex just 95 days before her cure and has plans to escape over to the WIlds. This book reminded me a lot of the book The Giver which I loved reading. It really made me wonder of what our future holds. Abandon - Mag Cabot: Following the Greek myth of Hades and Persephone, Pierce after returning from the dead fears for herself. After moving to her mother's old home she can't help but feel more frightened for someone is watching her, the person she was trying to escape from her living and dead life all along : John. John, however, wants Pierce to be safe from the Furies, who are trying to kill her by keeping her in the Underworld FOREVER! I love Greek mythology and the fact that this book is so twisted made me love it even more. Seventy- five years ago, the American scientists found the cure to cancer, viruses, and any deadly epidemics. This American generation thrived, living up until old age without any pain. The future generation was given the same gift, but with something good there always comes bad. Males only lived until the age of twenty – five, women only until the age of twenty. With this, young girls are kidnapped and sold as brides; the chosen enter wealth and fame, while the un- chosen die. Rhine, sixteen, abducted, and sold to the House Governor, Linden, seeks to escape everyday of her life to go find her brother. However, with Linden’s father stalking and threatening her every move and time going by so fast there is no way she can escape. The most interesting part of the book is when Rhine is trying to escape during a hurricane. It made me wonder if she would make it or not or die. I could never let go of the book and was always shocked about what occurred afterwards. I believe that whoever loves to read tragedies and twisters will definitely love this book. Wither is the type of science fiction book that wraps all elements together into one to make you feel a part of the story. |
