This book is a Non-Fiction book. It takes place in New York City mainly at The Record Plant where John Lennon's final record, Double Fantasy, was recorded. This book tells the story of the making of that amazing record, told by the people who were most involved with it (record studio workers, friends, musicians that played on the record). One of my favorite parts is when it was found out that it got out that John was working on the record, which was supposed to be a secret. Even though I found this entertaining, this is every artists' worst nightmare. I would reccomend this book to any Beatles/Lennon solo fan and/or any rock fan.
Power Chord by Scott McKenzie - This book is about a man's quest to meet some of his favorite guitarists and interview them about their thoughts on the instrument.
According to the Rolling Stones by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood - There's been many attempts to capture the story of "The Greatest Rock N' Roll Band in the World" but none better than this because it's told by the guys themselves! Mountains Come Out of the Sky: The Illustrated History of Prog Rock by Will Romano - Progressive Rock has always been the "other" genre of rock. Most of the chractieristics of a normal progressive rock song would include organs/synthesizers/etc., long solos, and a time length of at least 20 minutes. This book documents the entire genre "from the beginning" (Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Zappa) to the present day (Dream Theater, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree). The Encylopedia of Heavy Metal by Daniel Buhszpan - This book is an encyclopedia summarizing every metal band from A to Z. Zeitoun by Dave Eggers - This is the shocking story of an Islamic man that is able to survive Hurrican Katrina despite no electricity, no food, and cruel treatment from the government. Dragonwings by Laurence Yep - This is a book about a young Chinese boy named Moon Shadow who joins his father in California. It tells about their ups and downs of being in the land of the "denons". |
