This book is a non-fiction book. It starts off in New York where KISS began and then takes us around the world on the never ending adventure of the KISS circus. The main "characters" in this book are Paul Stanley (The Star Child), Gene Simmons (The Demon), Ace Frehley (The Space Ace), and Peter Criss (The Cat Man). One of my favorite parts in the book is when Ace joins the band. They said when he auditioned that he came off as kind of a weirdo/smart-alec (which he is), but by the end of the audition, he was their new guitarist!!! If you are a KISS fan or rock fan in general, I recommend this book to you.
This book is a Non-Fiction book. It takes place in New York City mainly at The Record Plant where John Lennon's final record, Double Fantasy, was recorded. This book tells the story of the making of that amazing record, told by the people who were most involved with it (record studio workers, friends, musicians that played on the record). One of my favorite parts is when it was found out that it got out that John was working on the record, which was supposed to be a secret. Even though I found this entertaining, this is every artists' worst nightmare. I would reccomend this book to any Beatles/Lennon solo fan and/or any rock fan. Power Chord by Scott McKenzie - This book is about a man's quest to meet some of his favorite guitarists and interview them about their thoughts on the instrument.
According to the Rolling Stones by Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Charlie Watts, and Ronnie Wood - There's been many attempts to capture the story of "The Greatest Rock N' Roll Band in the World" but none better than this because it's told by the guys themselves! Mountains Come Out of the Sky: The Illustrated History of Prog Rock by Will Romano - Progressive Rock has always been the "other" genre of rock. Most of the chractieristics of a normal progressive rock song would include organs/synthesizers/etc., long solos, and a time length of at least 20 minutes. This book documents the entire genre "from the beginning" (Pink Floyd, The Beatles, Zappa) to the present day (Dream Theater, Radiohead, Porcupine Tree). The Encylopedia of Heavy Metal by Daniel Buhszpan - This book is an encyclopedia summarizing every metal band from A to Z. Zeitoun by Dave Eggers - This is the shocking story of an Islamic man that is able to survive Hurrican Katrina despite no electricity, no food, and cruel treatment from the government. Dragonwings by Laurence Yep - This is a book about a young Chinese boy named Moon Shadow who joins his father in California. It tells about their ups and downs of being in the land of the "denons". I've read many books about heavy metal music and without a doubt, this must be my all time favorite. Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is more than an encyclopedia of metal bands, but an in depth look of what happened behind the scenes, through the eyes of a fan. From metal pioneers like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, to 80s superstars like Twisted Sister and Poison, all the way up to heavy metal gods like Slayer and Pantera, Eddie always has a story or two to tell about the bands he grew up with, the bands he is friends with, and the bands he helped make it big. This book is part auto-biography and part memoir. One of my favorite parts is in the Tesla chapter. Eddie speaks about the time he was scheduled to have Jeff Keith (Tesla's singer) on his radio show. Tesla's record label at the time was promoting this new supergroup called Brides of Destruction (featuring Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and Tracii Guns of LA Guns). They lied to him and told him Jeff couldn't make it, so they were sending Nikki and Tracii instead. When word got back to Jeff, he was so mad, he drove a beat up rented car from New Jersey all the way to New York City just to be on Eddie's show. I would reccomend this book t |
