I've read many books about heavy metal music and without a doubt, this must be my all time favorite. Eddie Trunk's Essential Hard Rock and Heavy Metal is more than an encyclopedia of metal bands, but an in depth look of what happened behind the scenes, through the eyes of a fan. From metal pioneers like Black Sabbath and Judas Priest, to 80s superstars like Twisted Sister and Poison, all the way up to heavy metal gods like Slayer and Pantera, Eddie always has a story or two to tell about the bands he grew up with, the bands he is friends with, and the bands he helped make it big. This book is part auto-biography and part memoir. One of my favorite parts is in the Tesla chapter. Eddie speaks about the time he was scheduled to have Jeff Keith (Tesla's singer) on his radio show. Tesla's record label at the time was promoting this new supergroup called Brides of Destruction (featuring Nikki Sixx of Motley Crue and Tracii Guns of LA Guns). They lied to him and told him Jeff couldn't make it, so they were sending Nikki and Tracii instead. When word got back to Jeff, he was so mad, he drove a beat up rented car from New Jersey all the way to New York City just to be on Eddie's show. I would reccomend this book t
