"The Book Thief" by Markus Zusak is a historical fiction novel set in the 1930s about a girl named Liesel Meminger. Liesel is a nine year old girl who is traveling with her brother Warren on a train. They are on their way to their foster home in Molching, Germany. After Warren dies, Liesel begins stealing bookls. Her first book was one from her brothers funeral. She continues her journey to Germany to live with Hans Hubermann and his wife Rosa. In one part of the book Liesel and her new friend Rudy join a group of boys to get food. They climbed over a wire fence and were gathering fruits when the owner came out and saw them. While running back Rudy got caught on the fence. He was almost caught had Leisel and the guys helped him.Throughout the book Liesel begins a collection of books. This book is a good book for both boys and girls. Its the story of a kid growing up during World War Two and all the struggles. Her family is poor, and they end up watching over a Jewish man. The risks and consequences are high if they are ever caught. I really liked this book it kept me interested the whole time.
I'm really into fiction, some science fiction, and fantasy books, but i also enjoy non-fiction too. Here's some books I've read Clockwork Prince I really enjoyed this book. Its a fantasy book about shadowhunters, mystical creatures and theres even some romace between the characters. This book is the second it a series. The First is Clockwork Angel, the third Clockwork Princess comes out in March. Cant wait!
Magyk This book was really long but very good. Its another fantasy book with wizards, potions, and Magic or Magyk as they call it. Magyk is part of a series called Septimus Heap. Just Ella This book is like a spin off of Cinderella. In this book Ella is engaged to the prince but she falls in love with someone else. I chose to read this book cause i really like the author, Margaret Peterson Haddix. Haddix writes alot of sci-fi books. I've read a few of her books like the Missing Book Chronicles and Double Identity. I loved them all. City of Ember This book is part of a series. I found it very interesting. This whole civilization is living underground but there source of light is slowly going out. Its a really good read. "The Help" is a realistic fiction book written by Kathryn Stocket and has been recently been turned into a movie. The story takes place in 1962 Jackson Mississippi. Aibileen and Minny are black maids working to just get by. Aibileen has always been one to take orders quietly with no complaints, but it has left her with a bitterness inside her. Minny, known for speaking her mind no matter the consequence, has been fired from nineteen jobs.Minny is hired by newcomer Celia Foote, whose secrets leave Minny astounded. "Skeeter" a white "socialite" back from college, hasn't met up to her mothers standards. Usually she would find comfort in Constantine, the maid who raised her, but she had disappeared shortly before Skeeters return. Aibileen, Minny, and Skeeter all team up to write about what life is actually like for black maids in the south.Though there are many risks, the three women unite with one thing in mind, they all hope for a better day.I throughly enjoyed this book. Its more of a girls book because most of the characters are all girls and their thoughts, but its a good read for anyone, teens and adults. |
