Author of INTO the WILD
INTO THIN AIR:JOHN KRAKAUER =) Main Character:
John Krakauer, the author, and suprizingly the main character, records his personal events in the book INTO THIN AIR.
Short Summary:
Krakauer decides to participate in an Everest Expedition in May 1996, even though he gave up his past mountain climbing years earlier. Krakauer, a journalist from magazine Outside, was only reported to climb up to base camp and report about Mt. Everest, and it's commercialization. But he wants to fulfill his long time dream from his childhood. Climbing Everest to the summit was brought in front of his eyes, and he took the risk, and the opportunity that came along with it. During the book a tragedy takes places towards the summit, 8 people dying including the captains of the climbing squad, This part which then comes near the end is personally said by Krakauer, that it was a terrible disaster that would last forever.
Setting:
This Non-fiction book takes place mostly in Nepal, on Mount Everest. At different Altitudes and environments, such as cold icy bland sections, and the Sherpals home village at 14,000 feet.
Favorite Part:
Even though this isn't in my perspective, a great book. But my favorite part is when, Krakauer describes the difficulties and the problems that happen on Everest. And also when he talks about all the materials used to venture up 27,000 feet.
Recommendation:
I would say people that like very detailed info packed journal entries about personal accounts, would probably be the best group of people to pick this book up and have a look at it.
