The Help takes place in crowded Jackson, Missippi in 1962. It’s about two black maids that work in rich white houses in the South. The two black maids named Aibileen Clark and Minny Jackson have two different personalities. Aibileen a very suttle and calm person that is still very depressed knowing that her son just died five months before. Minny, on the other hand, is one loud woman that sticks up for herself and can't keep her mouth shut. They always end up helping each other out some way or another, like how Aibileen is helping Minny find a job. Also how Minny helped Aibileen recover from her son's death. These two women work together to write a book on their lives working as black maids in the south. Their book is secret but is a tell all kind of book. Minny is one courageous person; she once threw a pie in snotty Miss Hilly's face after she heard what she was saying about her. What I thought was interesting is how much attention Aibileen pays to Mae Mobley compared to how much attention Miss Leefolt does to her own daughter. Miss Leefolt was on the phone in the kitchen one morning and Mae was bothering her trying to get her attention, her mom spanked her behind and sent her to Aibileen. I think young women in general would love this book. It shows how life for a black maid was back then. The Help is filled with gripping details that just can't keep you away.
